Activities

We are situated on the edge of “Rold Skov” and with “Rebild Bakker” as a neighbour.
Rold Skov is the second largest forest in Denmark and Rebild Bakker is our first National Park, a beautiful hilly heathland.
They are both great recreational areas for hiking, MTB cycling (there is also a down-hill trail) and horseback riding. There are many marked routes for interesting walks, ideas for jogging etc., brochures can be found in reception. Just walk outside, and you are on your way! Here are also small lakes where you can go swimming (you can also become a Viking and go for a swim in the winter followed by a visit in the sauna hut). Several springs where you can drink the water and even a stream where you can go canoeing for up til 37 km.
The hilly region is also popular for road cycling, where you can use Rold StorKro as a base for daily tours. Find maps and futher information on www.rebildporten.dk

For the golf-playing guest there is 7 km to Rold Skov Golf Club a beautiful and challenging golf course. And only 35 km to Himmerland Golf course where they play the European PGA Tour.

Every week and during holidays we offer “a stroll with your host” in the forest. Here you will hear stories and anecdotes of the area and its “famous” people. The tour is in Danish, but we can also on request, offer it in English or German.

Rold StorKro can be your local base for a nice outdoor visit in Denmark.
But we are also situated close (1 km) to REGAN Vest (Government Complex West) The reinforced shelter that was built to hide/protect the Danish government and the Queen in case of a nuclear attack on Denmark during the cold war. REGAN Vest is now listed and is opening for visits from ultimo 2021.

Furthermore, Denmark is a small country so within 1 – 1 ½ hours’ drive from Rold StorKro you can visit:
  • Skagen, the very top of Denmark, a charming old fisherman’s and painter’s town
  • Løkken/Blokhus, with Denmark’s finest beaches on the west coast, where you are allowed to drive in a car on the beach
  • Aalborg, the capital of northern Denmark, here you can go shopping and visit the Zoo or Kunsten - the museum of modern art
  • Lille Vildmose, Denmark’s largest nature conservation area. A raised bog where you can find a variety of animals such as moose, deer, foxes and a lot of interesting birds - i.e. eagles, cranes, geese, hawks and swans. The flora of the bog is also remarkably interesting.
  • Hobro – the home of the Vikings
  • Mariager – the rose Village. Old and charming village where the town center has a lot of half-timbered houses. You can also visit the Salt center, a modern museum with a salt mine and salt sewing.
  • Århus – the second largest city in Denmark. Visit: Den Gamle By, Moesgaard Museum, ARoS ect.
